Welcome to CLARiTy — Combining LAnd-use, modeling and Remote-sensing to Transform carbon budgets — a project designed to transform how we quantify land carbon budgets and deliver more accurate information to guide global climate action.
The largest uncertainty in the Global Carbon Budget (GCB) comes from land use and land use cover change emissions. Significant uncertainty also exists in our estimates of the natural land carbon sink which absorb around one-third of all human induced carbon emissions. These uncertainties create an imbalance in the GCB.
Through its research, the CLARiTy team aims to close this gap which is now a time sensitive challenge given the urgency of effective action to stop climate change. The team will improve the accuracy and robustness of land carbon estimates. This will give international decision-makers the reliable data needed to support informed, science-based policy.
